* Saab sales of 2,314 cars up 17% over January 2000 (1,979 cars)
* Saab 9-5 sales up 46% over January 2000
NORCROSS, Ga. - Saab Cars USA, Inc., the U.S. importer and distributor of
Saab 9-3 and 9-5 automobiles, announced sales of 2,314 cars during January
2001 - a 17 percent increase over January 2000 (1,979 cars).
Saab sold 1,165 Saab 9-5 models, a 46 percent increase over last January
(800). Sales of the 9-5 Sedan were up 46 percent over January 2000 (821 cars
vs. 561), and sales of the 9-5 Wagon were up 44 percent over same period (344
cars vs. 239). January was the sixth consecutive month that the 9-5 model
out-sold the Saab 9-3 model line. Saab sold 1,149 9-3 models in January,
which is on par with January 2000 (1,164).
'We're extremely pleased to start the year so strong,' said Richard O'Kelley,
Saab Cars USA's Vice President of Sales. 'In a month of uncertainty regarding
the automotive market, our retail partners responded with excellent results.'
For the 2001 model year, Saab introduced some exciting new features to its
line of vehicles. Saab is the first European brand to introduce advanced,
voice-activated on-board communication services standard in all of its U.S.
models. This system - the latest generation OnStar - uses wireless technology
and state-of-the-art voice recognition and text-to-speech technology to
provide hands-free security, information and concierge services. Saab will
also continue to offer its No Charge Scheduled Maintenance Program. This
covers all 9-5, 9-3 SE, and 9-3 Viggen models.

Automobile AB and is headquartered in Norcross, Ga., near Atlanta.

Saab Cars USA Transitions Advertising Creative to Lowe Brindfors
NORCROSS, Ga. - Saab Cars USA, Inc. has announced plans to transition its
advertising creative development to Lowe Brindfors, a Swedish agency based in
Stockholm, Sweden and part of the Lowe Group. Lowe Brindfors will open an
office in the Atlanta area to fully support the creative development and
production for Saab Cars USA's advertising needs. Saab Cars USA's current
agency, The Martin Agency, will continue to handle direct marketing duties.
The decision to change creative agencies is based solely on our desire to
consolidate efforts and improve our responsiveness to local market needs,'
said Dan Chasins, President of Saab Cars USA, Inc. 'The Martin Agency has
been an excellent creative source and will continue to be one of our
strongest partners. However, Lowe Brindfors handles the global creative
efforts for Saab Automobile AB and working with them on a local level will
remove the complexity of using two different agencies.'
Lowe Brindfors will handle all tactical and brand advertising for Saab Cars
USA Inc. The transition is expected to occur in May 2001.

Saab's Kjell Ac Bergstrom To Head Technical Development at New Fiat-GM
Powertrain Joint Venture Company
NORCROSS, Ga. - Kjell ac Bergstrom, Saab Automobile's Vice President of
Powertrain, has been appointed Vice President, Product Engineering of a new
Fiat-GM Powertrain joint venture company. He will be responsible for the
development of engines and transmissions for Saab, OpelNauxhall, Fiat,
Lancia and Alfa Romeo cars.
The new company of nearly 27,000 employees handles GM powertrain operations
for Europe and Latin America, and all Fiat powertrain operations. It
comprises a total of five development centers, 19 production plants in 11
countries, and has an annual production capacity of 7 million engines and
6.6 million transmissions. The new company is headquartered in Turin,
Italy.
While at Saab, Bergstrom headed up the Powertrain division - GM's Center of
Expertise for turbocharging. Saab recently announced a number of
groundbreaking engine technologies that improve fuel economy and reduce
emissions while not impairing power, including the Saab Variable
Compression engine concept and the Saab Combustion Control system.
