Hi-- My '82 900 (w/o turbo) refuses to start. I was driving without any problems, parked it for a few hours, and when I returned, it would crank but not start. The plug out of cylinder 3 had moist residue (perhaps either oil or gas) but the other 3 plugs were dry and appeared to be normal. The car was low on gas (perhaps completely out since gauge doesnt function, trip odometer showed 305 mi, mostly city, since last filled, normally get 350-400 mi on 16.5 gal tank) and I have since added 3 gal but it still will not ignite. Weather conditions: low 90s, high humidity, parked in the sun, white car. This also happened last spring. At that time a german car mechanic was able to get it started by replacing the plugs and doing some misc tinkering without directly addressing the specific problem (Cost=$110 :-( ) Somehow it started for him and has run fine up till now. I have tried holding the accelerator to the floor while starting, but it seems that fuel is still not reaching the cylinders (no gas smell). It has a new air cleaner and I will try replacing the plugs again tonight. There have been no recent fuel starvation problems during regular driving but the engine has been rough (but reliable) starting. The engine has 157K mi and has had a recent valve job. I would appreciate any suggestions or others experiences with this type of problem, this has reduced me to walking.
