Peter Duniho reminded me of my wife's story. In 2002, someone rear-ended her
1993 Honda Civic hatchback. The insurance company totalled it. The repair
estimates were $3000 to $3500. The bluebook value of the car was $3000. They
said they'd pay her $3200 for it. She asked to keep the car. They said fine,
and gave her $2900 for it instead. I put it on ebay for her. I posted several
pictures, most of them highlighting the damage, so I was completely honest,
and I stated that the car had a 'salvage title'. The bidding was tremendous.
We got $1675 for the car! The guy who picked it up didn't care that it wasn't
legal to drive on the roads. He was going to fix it up and race it on tracks!

So ask your insurance company how much they'd give you if you kept the car.
It might be a good deal for you to keep and repair.
