A Non-Pulsed 900
Posted by Paul Evan Matz (more from Paul Evan Matz) on Thu, 19 Oct 1989 12:48:51
My girlfriend's 83 900 turbo has been having this problem lately. All ofa sudden, it shuts down. Usually it happens on some remote highway, likethe Deegan in the Bronx (She was the one getting towed out of there yesterday. You saw her, right?). She says the car behaves like she just switched offthe ignition. The tach goes directly to zero (and doesn't collect $200).Anyway, our dealer said it's probably the pulse generator in the distributor. He said to check for spark, and if that's not the problem, try by-passing the fuel pump relay. Apparently, the fuel pump relay stays engauged by receivingpulses from the ignition system, and is prone to problems. However, if thepulse generator is dead, the fuel pump also doesn't run. Sounds fine, but what does it do if there is no spark? I'mtrying to borrow a 900 manual (I'm a 99 guy from way back, but no 900s).Has anyone got any ideas for trouble shooting this sort of problem?
