I cannot help you with mechanics but here is some more info so you are a bit
wiser when you get there.

There are 4 oil-type liquids in the engine compartment.

Engine uses engine oil. Probably black if it is well used.
Automatic transmission uses hydrolic fluid, probably red in colour (if brown
the transmission may be having problems)
The final transmission uses either engine oil or preferably a very light
gearbox oil (eg. Duckhams Hypoid 75, clear when it starts life).

Finally there is the power steering but I don't think this is your problem so
forget it (it uses the same liquid as the Automatic transmission).

===============================================

Your car has the H type engine whereas my only automatic had the B type
(earlier model). On the B type there were a lot of pipes and other gadgets on
the left side of the engine to do withthe atuomatic trasmission. I suspect
they will still be there. For example, there was a valve and the feed pipes
for the transmission oil cooler.

Check the oil level for both engine and transmission and you might get a
clue. There should be dipstics for each kind of oil. If either oil is below
the minimum top them up or you might have a very expensive bill.

Good luck.
Charles
