The switch should be located high up above the brake pedal on the inside of the car. Get a mirror and a light and look for it.
The only time I had a switch fail my brake lights stayed on. There WILL BE a fuse that controlls them but I don't know which one. Sorry I cannot guess what else might be wrong.
