Yes. I had 205/60/15 tires on my '84 900S, which is dimensionally identical
to your '92. I too was convinced that handling would improve with the extra
width. It did to some extent, but the extra sidewall bulge was more of a
detriment than I thought. What began happening is the tires would do more
shock-damping than the suspension, which is very tight on a C900 ! Not an
ideal handling situation at all.

As for clearance, the outside corner of the tire would just touch the fender
lip in the rear when I loaded the car up and drove over some dips in the
road. They were definitely in contact when the rear suspension was fully
compressed. Not bad enough to make me swap tire sizes though. In the
front, the inside sidewall would contact the coil-spring at full-extension -
like when you jacked the car up off the ground. This never caused a problem
while driving though, as I never yumped the car quite enough to leave the
ground !

So, 195/60/15 is the proper size for the car. You might try a 205/55/15
with a very strong sidewall, like a Dunlop SP5000. I have these on the 9000
and they are absolutely perfect in all ways except for a slight reduction in
the car's ground-clearance. The 9k has a 6'-wide wheel compared to the 5.5'
on your 900, so the wheel fitment might not be quite as good on the skinnier
wheel, but I think it would go on OK. 9000 wheels would bolt on to your
car, but their smaller offset number takes the whole extra 0.5' to the
outside, so you'd definitely have undesirable fender contact in the rear,
and maybe even in the front.

Best regards,

David Prantl
