yep, this was the problem. the taillight ground was all melted on the drivers side. put in a new ground wire in a snap and it works. well better anyway... now only the passenger side blinker glows when the lights are on and i hit the brakes :P it is an improvement though, moving in the right direction at least. i will tear it back apart tomorrow i guess.
