By bridging yellow wire to the red cable, you're giving extra current to the
yellow wire. So it's clearly the yellow wire that doesn't supply enough
current. It's enough to click the solenoid, but not enough to click it *all
the way*.

The reason for insufficient current in the yellow wire could be a problem
with the circuit that the wire is part of (starter switch, relay, some
connector along the way, or a section of wire along the way). It could also
be the battery positive connections at the distribution block on the right
fender. It could be that the battery is getting old and not supplying
enough current to the distribution block.

It could also be that there's no problem with the yellow wire current
supply, but that the starter solenoid is requiring too much current to click
all the way. A rebuilt starter could be the cure in that case, but a
simpler and cheaper fix would be to add an auxillary starter relay. This
extra relay would be triggered by the yellow wire, and would switch power
from the red cable (or directly from the battery) to the starter solenoid
terminal that the yellow wire used to connect to. There's excellent
