If it was a carburetor model (I don't think it is) then you have a manual
choke + adjustments that can be made to it. From your description it is an
injection model ... most likely ... the gadget which detects the temperature
of the engine and regulates the fuel supply is gone, so it keeps thinking the
engine is cold and supplies fuel to keep it running at fast-idle (which
should have been max 1400 rpm at starting decreasing to 850 rpm or so as the
engine warms up.)
Look at the sensors around the inlet manifold ... sorry I can't be of more
help.
