Message from Richard Klein Subject: RE: Starting problems '97 900SE ================= When the starter turns just fine but the engine takes longer than usual to fire, I'd start by replacing (or at least re-gapping) the spark plugs and plug wires, and it wouldn't be bad to replace the distributor cap and rotor while you're at it. I suppose a failing battery could affect the ignition before you notice the starter turning any slower, but that hasn't been my experience. Frankly, despite what any tests may say, it sounds like your battery's probably fine. You do carry jumper cables with you, though, right?
P.S. - I don't know anything about the '97 900s, but I bet they've got distributorless ignitions, and thus would have no distributor cap and rotor to replace. Either way, check the spark plugs.
