Hi there,

Welcome to SAABNET,

With reference to your question.

What colour is the water already. It should not be clear because if it is,
that shows there is no anti-freeze or rust inhibitor in there. If the water
is colour ed, and the colour is strong, I don't see any objections to just
topping the tan k up with plain water.

Keep your eye on the coolant level though, you never mentioned whether the
car w as a high miler, or a Turbo. If once you have refilled the tank, it
appears to g et low again within a month or so of filling it, it could be a
sign that your he ad gasket is about to go. Not that I want to scare you or
anything, SAABs are wo nderful cars. I love mine to death, but I have heard
of a few head gasket failur es, and mine showed similar water level losses
just before my head gasket went.

Just keep your eye on it, if after a month of normal driving the water level
is still as you filled it, then no worries mate your head gasket is fine.

Congrads on the purchase of your first car, you could not of picked a better
mac hine. Love it, and it will love you back. It will protect you well too,
All mode ls have re-enforced safety cages and auto retracting and tensioning
seat belts, plus they are built like a tank. If you are unlucky enough to be
involved in an accident pray for the people you hit and not yourself. Hearing
of a Saab do 250, 000 miles with only general maintenance (oil, filters and
such) is not uncommon at all. Mine is a 88 9000 CDE 2.0 High Pressure Turbo.
Its been modified to have 250BHP 280LB of torque. When you put your foot
down, there isn't much over hear in England that will keep up with it. These
cars are a blast.

Take care, Hope everything goes well with your new toy

Anthony
