Stalling problems
Posted by Number Six (more from Number Six) on Thu, 22 Jul 1999 09:46:27
I drove out to the Pasadena area and my 88 9k Turbo stalled while street driving this afternoon. I had it towed back to where I am staying.
Problems are stalling and difficulty starting. Not keeping proper idle rpm. Tends to stall at intersections or going on gradual uphill.
I changed the air filter and the spark plugs (hasn't been done for some time). Plugs show excess carbon (rich fuel mixture?) except for cylinder 3, which has lots of oil (was blowing black smoke out in gradually increasing amounts at idle, not doing so now).
Questions 1. Does anyone recommend an mechanic in the Pasadena/Downtown Los Angeles, California area? Or do I just look for someone with European/Bosch fuel injection experience?
2. Is this a fuel injection system problem? Idle not set low enough? Too rich a air/fuel mix? Or bad compresion? Oxygen 2 sensor? What else do I check?
3. Any other thoughts? Keep in mind that this car has a lot of deferred maintenance due to lack of funds and lack of saab manuals (Although I now do have a Haynes manual for it written in British speak).
