I've used the black tape, sold by the dealer for about 40 buck$ and found it really helps
with the small stones & insects. I've used one on an '86 C900 and on my '94 NG 900SE, both
with good effect. We have lots of gravel roads, and the highway department uses 2 in minus
for 'sanding the roads' in the 6 months of ice & snow here. The '99 catalog also shows a
clear plastic cover, but it probably doesn't fit the classic 900's even with modifications.
