Subject: Re: cd receiver ================= Hi, did you ask the dealer...although maybe I should not mention Volvo on this board, those dealers used to have an elaborate book of which radios would retrofit in which cars. I would think that your 1989 radio is DIN sized (a German Industry Standard size, used worldwide for car radios at the time). SAAB probably maintained their connector standard for a while. However, most CD players are set up for four speakers, so if your original setup is for only two speakers, that may be in the way of your plug-and-play idea.
To determine what fits, if you take the radio/cassette out of the car, you will better be able to determine what might fit. Take a photo of the connector and give to the dealer, they can then send it to the distributor if they can't determine on their own.
I would definitely do like you seem to suggest, i.e., go with a newer stock radio. Aftermarket radios may be cheaper, but they have silly tiny buttons and look outdated after 4 years. A contemporary aftermarket radio would look totally wrong in any 1989 car, especially a Saab.
