Just for those keeping track (nobody but me, most likely), we have now
enterred the 17th year of The Saab Network. The idea began in the fall of
1988 when there was little differentiation on the Internet between car
manufacturers. Rec.Autos was where you went on USENET to ask car questions.
And that's where I went when my 85 900 water pump started what later became
known as the traditional march to failure. In return to my queries, I
received a lot of 'You should've bought a Ford/Volvo/Gremlin instead' replies
which, while mildly funny, were of no help. On October 1st, I decided to
create a mailing list for Saab owners. On October 9th, the first message went
out to The Saab Network mailing list (there was no web in 1988):

In that year we had a mere 100 online Saabers. 16+ years later (and after the
creation of the world-wide-web), there have been months in which more than
1/4 million Saabers have visited saabnet.com and currently more than 125,000
pages are downloaded every single day. The site served its one millionth page
earlier this year and is fast closing in on its one billionth hit.
There are some bigger and better features coming, always later rather than
sooner because I seem to always underestimate the time it takes to code new
features! One thing is for sure - everything is always changing.
