Subject: Saab News
Saab is focusing on its products after losing the argument with
owner General Motors about whether future models must be built in
Sweden. This month, General Motors Europe said the next-generation
Saab 9-3 and Opel Vectra will be built starting in 2008 at the Opel
plant in Russelsheim, Germany. Saab's main plant in
Trollhattan, Sweden, had bid against Russelsheim for the
program, but lost.
Saab Automobile AB is joining the ranks of automakers that provide
extended warranties on engines prone to oil sludge buildup and
possible failure. In the United States, letters announcing the
warranty will go this month to owners of 132,000 vehicles, says Tom
Beaman, spokesman for Saab Cars USA Inc.
Disappointed by General Motors' decision to shift production of its
mid-sized European vehicles, Saab CEO and Chairman Peter
Augustsson, will resign his position at the struggling Swedish
automaker, General Motors announced this week. Carl-Peter Forster,
president of General Motors Europe, will assume the role of
chairman of the Saab Automobile AB board and Jan-Ake Jonsson will
become managing director for the brand.
