It might just be that the rubber pad on the valve
cover, above the cam chaingears, has hardened. It's a
relatively common problem.

This doesn't discount the possibility that there might
be excessive chain stretch or other wear, but it's
worth checking.

For a procedure on in-car timing chain replacement,
check www.townsendimports.com (when the site is up.)
