Sonett III rear bumper bracket removal
Posted by Erik Bjorkner (more from Erik Bjorkner) on Wed, 1 Sep 1999 05:51:11
Hey,
I am attempting to discard the large rear bumper on a late '72 but am a little perplexed.
It appears that the bumper brackets were inserted into the rear subframe and then the body placed over them as they have a small flange which has a fastener through the rear body to this flange on the inside of the car. With this in mind, the only was to remove the bracket I see is to cut the flange off with say a SAWZALL or cut the fiberglass in way of the flange.
Or.. am I missing something and there is another way? IF it is either cut the fiberglass or the flange, which one have others out there done? Does the rear need the support? My '71 in the garage doesn't seem to have any of the support and it appears fine.
Thanks,
