9000S shifting problem

My '90 9000S five speed stopped shifting into 1st, 3rd, and 5th today.
There feels like there's something stopping the shifter from going through
the gate.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be?
I kow there's a linkage undereneath that sometimes causes problems. If that
is it, how do I get at it?
