Tyre squeal can come becuae of the surface on which you are turning (ie. if
tghe tarmac is well polished). It is not difficult to check if the
sterring rod ends are worn. Any tiny movemement in them you should replace
them (worn tyres cost much more than replacement parts). If either is badly
worn you could get a clank but it is unlikely they would be so worn without
noticing the tyres falling to pieces.

Look for something simple like a brake pad that moves too freely.
