headgasket replacement?
Posted by terrickj (more from terrickj) on Thu, 4 Nov 1999 22:04:22
I pulled the head on my 88 SPG to replace a broken manifold stud and spent about $750 for parts and machine shop work, so $1,000 for someone else to do it is about right. I had the kind souls at Townsend send me a list of items they recommend be replaced when pulling a head and did them all.
I think head gasket failure is becoming more and more common on all cars. Probably a result of both cars being driven longer and the tolerances in engines becoming closer in trying to save weight and efficiency. Last two 'amurrican' cars I've owned blew head gaskets in under 70k.
