Weak mixture? Can be caused by a number of things (eg. less fuel going
in or more air going in than it should, eg. leaking inlet manifold).

I think your car may have a distributor with a manual advance (centrifugal
weights ... if I can spell them). If it does not advance then weak mixture
again. Can be a damaged air pipe to the distributor.

Does a US 1987 model have electronic ignition or is it a manual
distributor with points? (what is the American term for points now? the
platinum contact things inside the distributor).

Having said all that, back pressure should not be high when the car is
starting to move, should be much worse when running at full speed. It can
off course be the opposite as well, too low prssure. Supposingly an engine
is tuned to work best with the manufacturers original exhaust syustem. I
cannot at the moment screw my head back on and work out how a turbo car could
be affected by a replacement exhaust.

Regards
Charles
