I haven't used the ATE Powerdisk, but it does seem interesting. An '87 SPG
should have thicker vented front rotors, as opposed to the skinny solid ones
used on earlier 900's, and these should have enough heat capacity and
dissipation ability to handle SPG driving. My guess is that the Powerdisk
will not be dramatically better than a good quality OEM stock rotor from
Brembo, Norrbit or Beck-Arnley. Check out the prices on these at a local
foreign auto parts store. Or see http://www.imparts.com. They sold me some
rotors a while (Beck-Arnley) that were very well priced (about $50) and
extremely good quality. If the Powerdisk is not significantly more
expensive, I would try it out. Incidentally, I think I remember Scandia
advertising the Powerdisk for SAABs in the NINES #239 for $55.

Repco is now called Axxis, and their Metal Master pads are still the best
choice for a SAAB. Grip is fantastic, fade is just about impossible to
produce, and warm-up is not an issue (like with carbon-based competition
pads). They last at least twice as long as stock OEM pads, but this (and
the better grip) at the expense of rotor wear. Personally, I'd rather
change the pad/rotor combo every 3-4 years than use soft pads (with less
braking grip and more frequent pad changes) just to prolong rotor life.
Using a new set of Metal Master pads with mostly worn-out rotors will give
you squeals like you've never heard before ! If you must use old rotors,
get some softer OEM pads and break them in VERY carefully to minimize
squeals. Metal Master pads for SAABs are carried by Imparts, and by most
local foreign auto parts stores.

Don't forget to bleed out ALL the old fluid with NEW DOT4 stuff. Castrol
LMA DOT4 is highly recommended. Imparts sells ATE fluid (in 2 colors!)
which is surely good, but more expensive.

For an extra dose of braking improvement, call Paragon Performance for a set
of steel-braided flexible brake hoses. I think a set is like $60, and that
could be the best $60 I ever spent on my brakes...

Best of luck.
