Hi,
The igniter failed on my 2.1L 1993 900S in Death Valley, requiring a tow to Las Vegas. At the time of failure, the engine was cool and unstressed. The date is Sunday December 26.
Does anyone know of an expeditious way to obtain this part? Here are the failed possibilities I have explored.
The Las Vegas Dealer (Findlay) does not open until Monday, and there is no way to ask them if they have it before then. If the dealer doesn't have it, I don't have another alternative.
The roadside assistance fellow did not know of any mail-order service, or anyone who could be asked how common this part is. Does anyone know of a mail order service?
I called about 30 mechanics and auto parts stores in Las Vegas and no one had it. Hardly anyone had Saab parts at all in fact.
The only way I have of knowing that this is the problem is from a mechanic's diagnosis. He said the coil was okay, but there wasn't any sparking. He said the igniter controls the coil operation, and that the igniter-coil connection was okay. The engine goes whir-whir when the key is turned but it does not start.
Does this part fail often? It seems that the prospects for Saab repairability, especially in emergy situations, is not good.
Thank you,
Jason Maron
Igniter: A small part on the far left side of the engine, cabled to the coil. Bosch MTR03022710024.
