Jason,
the part number you gave does not seem 100% correct. I suspect that it is:
0 227 100 124
This is a standard Bosch ingition transistor, used on many different SAAB models and probably other cars as well. Any shop that advertises the sale of Bosch parts will have access to it, though a few months ago the Bosch USA distribution center was backordered. I got mine from a local foreign car parts store for about $70 - in stock.
I have never had one of these things fail, but know people who have. Seems like a random piece of bad luck.
If a new part is not easily available, call a salvage yard (one of those listed on TSN) and they will surely have one that will work long enough for you to get a new one.
On the bright side, component replacement doesn't really get any easier than this on a SAAB !
