The cracked pulley has resulted in a recall for some cars (not SAAB) where the GM engine is fitted. Off course it is so easy for a warranty to have been invalidated thus you have to pay.
On a slightly different note, check what leasing (leasing or rental) the car has been through. Ex-rental cars I would say are bad. Did it belong to one driver or was it a pool car. Finally, the essence is if it has full saab service history (to be verified by SAAB not just the book). If not I would walk away.
