Armrest
Posted by Ari Kahan (more from Ari Kahan) on Thu, 27 Jan 2000 16:04:48
It takes about 45 seconds to install the armrest. Maybe a couple minutes if you do a really careful job. (The dealer probably bills an hour...)
It attaches with screws. It's easiest if you take the existing cupholder cover off (by carefully pulling the hinges in back outwards to release them from the pins).
Take the cupholder cover inside the house and put it on your kitchen table. Position the armrest on top of it (making sure not to position it backwards; look at the picture in the accessory catalog -- it's easy to put it on backwards if you're not thinking about it), and turn the whole assembly upside down (so the armrest is under the cupholder cover.) Then, screw in the screws (supplied with the armrest as part of the kit -- they get screwed into the circular indentation in the bottom of the cupholder cover, and run up into the bottom of the armrest, securing it to the cupholder cover -- it's helpful to have a drill to start the holes in the cupholder cover).
They even give you a little felt stick-on that covers the screwheads so that you don't see the unsightly screwheads when you open the cupholder. Then, just snap the cupholder cover back into place in the car.
And, no, the armrest does NOT get in the way of shifting; if anything, it's probably too far rearward (unless you have very long legs and position your seat to the most rearward of its track.)
A very very easy job. Just DON'T put it on backwards.
