TCS OFF won't go off
Posted by Ari Kahan (more from Ari Kahan) on Tue, 4 Apr 2000 21:44:41

My 'TCS OFF' light won't go off.
This is the light that is supposed to go
on if you turn the traction control system
off (it's turned on by default) in
my 1996 900SE 6 cyl. The light being on
means that the TCS system either isn't
working, or has been turned off by the driver.

The problem used to be intermittent, but
is now constant: I turn the car on,
and as soon as the wheels go around once
or twice (in forward or reverse), the light
comes on, and stays on, until I turn the car off.

Pressing the 'TCS' button repeatedly doesn't have
any effect. I don't think it's a problem with
the switch, or with a relay, because the light
gets turned on by the wheels turning: something about
the wheels starting to turn seems to turn the light on.

I don't know where to start on this: I have NO CLUE
how this system works; are the sensors the same
ones used for the ABS? How would the turning of
the wheels light the light up?

Thanks for any clues,

Ari
