Hi,
Are you old enough to remember the saying "Ford sells safety. GM sells
cars."? I'm not either, but that was the gist of what people thought
in the 60s and 70s.
Saab needs to sell cars and not environmental friendliness. As such,
greater emphasis should have been put upon performance, styling, handling,
marketing, marketing, and marketing than on environmental friendliness.
If the dash looks ugly to a potential buyer of Saab 9-3SS and is a
negative deciding factor, he will not change his mind because he's told
that the plastics are environmentally friendly.
I agree that the marketing has been extremely poor. The commercials
do not mention the words "Saab" and "9-3SS" nearly enough. Also,
I'm sure potential buyers are being turned off by 175HP in Linear trim
and not bothering even to test drive 9-3SS.
There is no question that 9-3SS is a great automobile, and in Vector
or Arc trim, it probably IS a 3-series competitor.
thanks
Jae
