and a more modern engine by design. And with the current 250hp and 350Nm output (90% of which is delivered at 1500rpm BTW) it really is just a walk in the park for it. While the old 235R is under lot's of stress. It's at its limits really.
Marketing-wise, you need a v6 in this class to compete with others. At the same time it has to be a turbo engine to provide that SAAB point of difference
Business-wise, you have an engine plant in Australia you invested lots of money in, so you need to create demand (Opels in Europe are now available with modifications of this engine as well)
Anyway you do not need more than 250hp/350Nm on a FWD car. I am pretty sure, that as soon as (and if) SAAB will introduce an AWD model, we'll see a 300bhp version of this powerplant, or more... Actually, Hirsch (and others) will surely come up with something even earlier. I'd say in a few months...
