... I don't think the XM belongs to the dealer. It's just that they likely gave you the radio with the car as a promotion(I got mine this way). I was under no obligation to pay the dealer for the install. In fact, Best Buy did the install for about 1/3 of the dealer cost and include the uninstall at the end of the lease.
You should be able to take it with you when the lease is up, if you want it. But I made them give me back the parts removed so they may be replaced later.
I can't tell any difference in sound quality between my XM Commander and the regular FM radio. I'd say the culprit might be the antenna. I was under the impression that there was no way the shark-fin would work with the XM units. That was for On-Star use only. I'd ask them to try the XM antenna and see if that helps.
Make the dealer make it right for you.
