I've taken almost the entire dash apart with the exception of the area directly behind the steering wheel/gauges. This site has a good description on removing the radio and center console.

Although it's been a while, I think I remember how I did it...
To get the panels under the dash out, I believe there's just a couple of screws and then they pull out. I think the drivers side was a little difficult because of the pedals - I may have left it hanging. After that, you should be able to remove the entire glove box to give you more room to work - it's just held in place by five screws (maybe six). Two at the top, two at the bottom, and one inside. That's as far as I took it for what I needed to install. For the microphone, I know the convertible is different from the hard top, but the lens that covers the map/dome light should just pry off. Then I'm sure there's a clip or screw behind it that might help. Good luck!
