Oil consumption by auto and motorcycle engines covers a wide spectrum. While many don't use any at all many do and the oil consumption rate is not considered serious until it gets close to the 1 quart per 1,000 mile range. At that point an inattentive owner risks engine damage because of low oil. I emphasize an inattentive owner, as checking the oil every 3-4 tankfuls or once a month is a good idea even for an engine that doesn't "burn" oil in case a leak or other problem arises.
Oil consumption is usually a function of the piston rings not sealing completely in which case the oils is going into the crankcase to be returned by the PCV system to the intake or burnt in the combustion progress the first time. Even at 1 qt per 1k your still unlikely to have combustion chamber build up as that's more likely caused by a lack of aggressive driving.
Spread a quart, or for easier arithmetic, a liter, over 5,000 miles, over 4 cylinders, figure roughly 2,500rpm or 10,000 piston strokes per mile times 5,000 miles or 50,000,000 piston strokes to use 1.0 liters and the oil burned is insignificant and there is no practical value trying to find out why or where. Or another way to put it is that you'll use an exess of 20 quarts in 100,000 miles at $4 per quart = $100 or just about what an hour of diagnostic labor costs. It just ain't worth chasin'...
