It's another fad from our industry's think tank. See it as the tooth paste industry where they have to come up with something new catchy name or ingredient every year to sell more.
Your tire already contain a whopping 78% of Nitrogen when you fill it with shop air, so the little extra to bring it up to 100% will not really make a big difference in regular car fleets.
Fighter jets, commercial airlines and race cars kind of work on a way higher level than what we need to worry about.
And as you say, every time you need to add air to tire, you dilute the content if you can't find a shop with Nitrogen tank.
But it's selling, and that's the most important thing in a capitalistic world.
As long as someone can make a buck on something, it will be out their for someone to buy.
And while you are at the dealer to get your tires air replaced, Oh, by the way, we see that you need new brakes all around and this and that and a little bit more.
