Tire Wear on OEM Pirellis

OK, here's my whine. My 58y/o trophy wife who had to have a sporty car is now in the market for new tires, it seems. Her car is an '03 9-3 Linear with the sporty 17" wheels and Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires that are worn down to the wear bars. I can't believe that she couldn't get more than 20.6K miles out of the tires (although I suppose that I shouldn't gripe after 4.4 years of driving on them). The dealer's service rep opined that it was due to the sportiness of the tires that causes them to hug the road better and thus to wear faster. Yeah, right!
Anyway, I've been rummaging through the posts and have narrowed down my choices, I think, to the Michelin Pilot Exaltos or the Goodyear F1GS-03s. They're about the same price, around $175 at Discount Tire. Any suggestions out there for one who just wants long-wearing, quiet, safe for south Texas and yet sporty tires for her? I'm perfectly content to drive my stodgy (but wonderful) 00 9-5 V6 Wagon until it disintegrates. Thanks in advance.
