over your '04 linear. More powerful engine plus some of the options you had to pay for are included in the base model (e.g., dual climate control, better stereo). I have an '07 2.0T and at the $27,000 price level new (now it would be obviously cheaper) the build quality and performance are pretty good compared to the similarly priced competition (those who would already be forking over $35 to $50k for a premium vehicle might be dissapointed but in the $20's range its fairly impressive). My only complaints (so far after a year of use) are a somewhat temperature sensitive and notchy manual transmission and rear brake pads (perhaps rotors as well) that wear out at 20k miles.
On travel recently the rental place gave me a Ford Mustang. Admittedly a fairly inexpensive car (I think base model) but with 20k on the ticker the suspension appeared shot (like no suspension and clunky over bumps) and there were strange noises coming from the trans. It had no acceleration, lots of interior hard black plastic, and handled like a Camry. Its only saving grace was a fairly cool shaped windshield and really nice sounding stereo.
