14-15 MPG doesn't seem normal. Now, do you take this off the info display, or calculate based on the amount of gas pumped / distance traveled ? The latter method is much more realistic.
In a brand-new 93 2.0T auto, at about 50 city / 50 hwy I am averaging 25.5 mpg and hope to improve it as it breaks in. I imagine a stick shift would be more economical. Interestingly, I see no major difference regardless of whether I use 87 or 93 octane (I alternate every week, for now, just to see if and how much this matters; I think I'll stick with 87 and occasional (once every couple of months) use of 93 to "burn clear" the FI system).
Now, 25.5 vs 29 at $3.50 per gallon for a driver averaging 15,000 miles a year is $245 per year difference - noticeable but not deadly.
