Our brand-new 2008 9-3 Aero SportCombi began to manifest the same front-end "clunk" after accumulating 200 miles on the odometer. The scenario is always the same: After starting the engine (when cold), the car is backed out of the garage, down the driveway and onto the street. The transmission is placed in D, slight pressure applied to the accelerator as the steering wheel is turned toward the right to enter the street. As the vehicle is turning, a "clunk" can be heard (and slightly felt through the steering wheel)orginating from the front-end. When the engine compartment is warm, the "clunk" cannot be reproduced.
I brought the vehicle to the dealer yesterday and am anxiously awaiting their evaluation.
If this is a "normal" manifestation, then why did it not develop until 200 miles were accumulated? If "normal" then why does it not happen when underhood temperatures are warm-suggesting heat expansion somehow corrects the problem?
This is our first Saab; already must I question the purchase?
I would greatrly appreciate any and all advice from those who have experienced a similar scenario. Many thanks for taking the time and trouble of a reply.
