I always wondered about that. I had an 04, now I have an 08. I had noticed the lock then unlock thing. I assumed that they did it to save money and by eliminating the switch, they also made it more reliable. That explains the fact that the car is more reliable. I noticed it because in my 04, I could take the key out and immediatly open the door. Now it is about a second before I can open the door. No big deal, but I did have to get used to it.
