Saabs use NGK plugs.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 03:55:37 In Reply to: spark plugs & filters, chris, Thu, 22 Jan 2009 16:34:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You can buy your own plugs at the local auto parts store, but always buy NGK! The Trionic engine management system actually "reads" the precise moment of combustion by monitoring the plugs for the Electromagnetic Pulse created by the explosion within the cylinder. Use of another brand of plugs "may" interfere with these readings.
Personally; I used Champion brand plugs once in my 9-5 with no problems. Others report major problems when trying to use 4-prong plugs and other high cost/high-tech alternatives. The NGK's are inexpensive so why risk messing something up.
For oil filter recommendations see my post above.
The oil you use needs to meet GM's & Saab's LL-A-025 specification. Mobil-1 in the 0W/40 weight is the most widely available oil with this certification. I use TOTAL Quartz Energy 9000 in 0W/30 weight because I can get it at local import specialists for a good price. The 2.0T engine requires 6 litres of oil, or 6-1/3 quarts.
