You must be driving (or braking) very hard if your 2006 front pads were worn out at 39K.
The 06 should have come with the better (Akebono) GM pads from factory and I have not seen any worn out yet.
Did you have them replaced at the dealer at 39K. Maybe the mechanic didn't think about it and threw in the older pads (05 and older) which would certainly be more dusty than the Akebono ones.
The rear pads are going down very quickly on these cars and I have starting to use the Akebono Euro pads in the rear to make them last longer and create less dust. Those you cannot get from the dealer though.
