Lots of good counsel from other respondents, but I'd just note that my fwd 06 Aero did fine in the snow last winter with the Yokohama AWs all-season tires. We had less snow here in Central IL than in Chicago, but still had unusually heavy snowfalls. I went through unplowed suburban streets to a dentist appt after a snowfall of about one foot. Except for the snowplow effect of the spoiler, fwd was sufficient.
Overall, I like the idea of dedicated snow tires and wheels for winter, and if I lived in a heavy snowfall area I'd go for 'em. The extended life for both sets helps offset the initial cost.
