1) Don't assume that any dealer service is always right (on any make). Many here can attest to that fact.
2) Don't assume that this failure is was not caused by a cumulative action over the ownership period, so timing can be incidental or mitigated by something else, e.g. car wax in the holes
3) You indicate that this is the result of poor design and/or build quality, yet this system has been on the cars for years, has never had any recall or service announcement, and failure has not been a common or even uncommon occurrence.
4) You further express that you are waiting for the next Saab design feature to fail on your owned from new 4-year old car, which suggests that you have had an extremely bad owner experience (and would therefore be looking to rid yourself of this lodestone) or perhaps the maintenance has not been followed properly and the car has suffered accordingly. Either way, you don't seem to even like Saabs, which seems strange as this is an aficionado website.
Don't look now, but you have some sand in your ears.
