the shop or mechanic's ability to know common ailments on your year and model.
As John says, pay attention to the section of what is not covered. In my experience, the better more comprehensive plans actually have "whats not covered" sections. The plans who only state the items which ARE covered are usually worse off.
In my opinion you can have a great warranty plan (such as GMPP) but if your mechanic does not have a keen eye on finding problems (even that you may not be aware of) the best warranty does not mean anything. Very often new clients bring me 9-5s which have extended warranties which have bad ACC components, collapsed motor mounts, leaking drive shaft axle seals, leaking oil pressure sensors etc. Stuff that wont keep the car from running but to the "common" driver/owner they may never notice the problem. Very commonly find 800-1500 in repairs on vehicles that have warranties and drivers who are unaware of issues or arising problems.
