Car is a 1999 9-3 Base model, Manual transmission.
Recently purchased for $2000 from a used car dealer in upstate NY with 187,xxx on the odometer.
Car started and ran fine for about two weeks, then intermittently stopped starting.
Then would not start altogether.
not water temperature dependent...
We replaced the CPS with a brand new bosch unit, $130
We have known working DI cassettes to test with as well.
We tried swapping out the DI first, but it wouldn't start still, until we replaced the CPS.
When we replaced the CPS, the battery had been left unhooked for the night before, to help reset the ECU...
upon replacing the CPS and using a known working DI cassette, the car cranked AND fired up immediately! And would have run indefinitely ( i think) if someone who was helping us hadn't left some sort of tool in the radiator fan, making a racket and causing us to shut it down again. Doh!
At this point, before starting it again, we switched back to the original DI, which was newer and appeared to be in better condition anyways, and we figured the cps was at fault, since originally swapping the DI didn't start the car...
...and we figured a catastrophic failure of BOTH the CPS and the DI at the same time was unlikely... so we figured our original DI was good.
Car wouldn't start up again after this point... at all
no matter which DI we used..
The CEL was on, but when read with a OBD2 reader, it had no stored codes.
So
here we are.
New CPS, good working DI's... One good start and then nothing...
CEL with no codes...
what's going on here?
The only other semi-relevant pieces of information i can think of that you would want to know is.
the SID is all distorted, we can't read it. it might be trying to tell us something... What kind of errors would it tell us other than the theft system?
The rear trunk doesn't latch sometimes... so when we try and arm the alarm it doesn't arm fully?
sometimes it will go off and sometimes it won't... it's very odd...
thinking that it might be the alarm... we tried locking all the doors and then unlocking them VIA the driver door outside lock with the key, hoping that the alarm would stop trying to disable the starter, if that was what was going on.
we have no alarm key fob with the car..
so...
Bad ecu?
we checked the grounds....
what else would cause this condition?
thanks
