The 05+ 2.0's are still reasonable for the home mechanic. Nice amount of room in the engine bay, brakes/suspension are straightforward, etc. Obviously, as Mr Myers said, there are a few jobs that'll need a Tech2 and likely a professional hand, but the cars seem to be very reliable.
That said, my wifes 08 aero w/the 2.8 scares me. Shoehorned in worse than an LS1 in a miata. The plug job (hopefully a couple years out from the current 35k miles) and the inevitable coil replacement is a few hours of work, and is about all I feel qualified to do on my own. Thankfully there's a pretty solid drivetrain warranty, and the car has been absolutely trouble free.
