Try to take a resistance reading of the old CKP sensor when hot and compare. It seems to be the same 860 Ohm as the old 9-3 and 9-5 and a high reading is a dead give away for a bad sensor. I sometimes mount the sensor in a vise and heat it slowly with a paint remover gun and see how the resistance climb and then go open circuit and come back to normal again when cold.
I have never had to replace that sensor yet on a Sport Sedan but just the other day a customer with an 03 called and said he had towed the car to another shop and they said it was the CKP sensor. I haven't heard back from him so I can't say for sure though.
I know these ones are not that fun to get to but the 05 might at least be better than the 03 with SAI system.
