Yes, they disintegrate, especially if you carry them around in your pocket. As far as I know, no one sells just the shell. You can buy a new key and swap the circuit board and the hard key. That avoids the reprogramming and key cutting charges. If you still have that button, you can renovate the key with liquid rubber. I use one called "Shoe Goo" which comes in black. Take out the hard key and circuit board and spply carefully inside and out. It will look awful but it will work!
