I have had this problem about every 2.5 years. 1st time dealer covered transponder replacement under warranty, 2nd time I azlledc to se if they had keys and then I sent my daughter to pick up the keys and transponder and dealer gave her just the shell casing and transponder less the key insert since I didn't need the key blank, no charge.
I opened the case and switched old transponder chip into new case and put unprogrammed circutes in a baggie for futuere use if needed. very easy to do and so far in six years haven't had to pay for a replacement key yet. simple as changing the battery which I also did with the new transponders.
